Gearshifters combines action, combat racing and a simplified roguelike. The game has a top-down camera, but the graphics are three-dimensional. The action takes place in 2060 in a dystopian Europe. Its territory was divided among gangs. The hero works as a courier and is trying to get to the mysterious Citadel. The plot is presented using cut scenes from pictures. There are 3 modes: arcade, standard, deadly.

The gameplay in Gearshifters is reminiscent of scrolling shooters. The screen moves independently from left to right. And the user, within its limits, moves his car in different directions. The user takes orders for cargo delivery. To complete the tasks, you need to go through several stages. Most often, the path lies through zones controlled by bandits. Various factions are trying to destroy the player. The tracks are generated randomly. The order in which enemies appear on the road also changes each time.

Here you have to fight a lot with enemy vehicles. They can be rammed and destroyed with weapons. As the gamer progresses, he earns money. You can use them to improve your current car or buy a new one, acquire additional weapons, or acquire special skills. For example: the ability to turn sharply and, moving backwards, shoot your pursuers. There are a total of about 100 upgrades in the game. There are boss battles. Each leader needs to choose his own tactics. Gradually, the user expands his sphere of influence and opens routes. There are 9 biomes and 27 levels in total.
