A Summer’s End – Hong Kong 1986

A Summer’s End – Hong Kong 1986 is a visual novel, hand-drawn in a simple yet vibrant style with lots of memorable backgrounds and over 400 pieces of art inspired by the works of Asian artists. All pictures, characters and environmental objects were created manually by developers from a little-known indie studio. The game «End of Summer» takes place in Hong Kong in 1986, where at the center of the events shown are two young females who are in love. Their relationship is hampered by society, which is not ready to accept what is different, unusual and, in their opinion, wrong.

Michelle and Samantha accidentally crossed paths on the street, and this meeting changed their lives forever. It is from this moment that the narrative begins, then the player takes an active part in the development of events with many possible endings. After a longer conversation, the girls realized their feelings and could not hide them, trying not to run into the condemnation of the crowd. The visual component is imbued with the atmosphere of the late 20th century – neon signs are everywhere, references to the anime and film industry of those years, people’s behavior clearly reflects the culture of those years. The musical accompaniment is also made according to the trends of the 80s in Asian countries. In this version, the gamer needs to go through a story filled with emotional experiences and communication with people close to the girls, which has several endings.
