Beyond The Edge Of Owlsgard is a representative of the point-and-click adventure genre. The indie project imitates the quests on PC from the 90s. That’s why it has low-resolution, hand-drawn 2D pixel graphics, old-school controls, and old-school gameplay. The developers were also inspired by cartoons from the end of the last century, which influenced the visual style. The character is controlled through the mouse. By default, clicks only move it around the location. There is no smart cursor here. To make the hero do something else, you need to select the appropriate action from the list of 9 verbs on the bottom panel. For example, in order for the protagonist to chat with an NPC, you must first click on the word “talk” and then click on the non-writing word. In a similar way, here you have to select, inspect and use objects, interact with interactive objects, and so on.

The project name translates to Beyond Oulsgard. Its action takes place in a world inhabited by humanoid animals called Velehill. One day shadows appear in it. This event is followed by the mysterious disappearances of anthropomorphic animals and the mysterious destruction of their villages. A roe deer hero named Finn learns that the same fate befell his family. He goes in search of relatives. During the journey, he is joined by Gwen the owl. She will help him find out a dark secret. The plot is presented through animated screensavers and dialogues. You can get to the end of the story in 6-8 hours.
