The main mechanic is to move left, right and down to improve units or buildings. To survive the surging wave, you need to upgrade walls and defensive weapons. Simple beggars can be turned into builders, warriors, archers, etc. It is also necessary to improve your personal horse. The goal of Kingdom, oddly enough, is to build a kingdom and survive. You don’t have an attack button, so soldiers will attack. You don’t know how to build structures and grow food—your subjects can do that. Your task is to manage resources wisely and tactically.
On each island there are portals from which evil spirits appear randomly at night. At first, repelling such waves will not be difficult. But the longer the player delays building and sending the ship, the more difficult it is to fight off the attackers. There is such a thing as a “Blood Moon”. On this day, hordes of creatures become many times larger and stronger. All monsters will try to defeat the king. For each missed blow, the ruler loses coins. If there is no money left, he may even lose the crown and the game will be over.
The graphics in Kingdom: New Lands are old school (8 bit). Which looks fascinating. Day follows night. Depending on the scene, the music adjusts, and sometimes it tells us what may await us next. Kingdom truly has the ability to surprise everyone. The gameplay will not get boring even after several hours of playthrough.
